1. How large and deep is Lake Tahoe?
Lake Tahoe is 22 miles long, 12 miles wide and has 72 miles of shoreline. Lake Tahoe’s deepest point at 1,645 feet making it the 10th deepest lake in the world.
2. Why is the lake so blue?
Because of the thin mountain air. The clear mountain air lets the water reflect the color of the sky very clearly. Observe the color of the lake during sunset or sunrise and you’ll see how the color changes with the sky.
3. Why have I never seen the lake freeze?
Because it doesn’t. Although some isolated inlets may the main body of the lake doesn’t freeze even in winter.
4. So can I swim in the lake in winter?
Yes. If you can stand the cold, which is doubtful since even in hot days the water is pretty cold at 68 degrees Farenheit.
5. What time of the year can I expect the best weather?
That depends on what you see as best. If you want to ski then winter climate is best. For non-skiiers you just have to look up the latest weather forecast since it is a bit unpredictable. However, you can be sure that most days are sunny since Tahoe have sunny days around 247 days a year.
6. What is the peak season?
In Tahoe each season brings its own influx of tourists. Winter is peak season for ski resorts and summer is peak season for lakeside resorts and hotels. Casinos get a steady influx of visitors year round.
7. How hard is it to book a hotel in Lake Tahoe?
It is actually very easy, especially with the numerous agencies in the web. Even during peak season you need not worry about having no place to stay since there are so many accommodation options. if you plan on staying in a really popular hotel though it is always better to do so early or you might not get your preferred rooms.
8. Is it better to book an entire package or just a hotel and map my own itinerary?
That depends on the available packages and your own preferences. Packages are always good since they are very convenient and usually allow you to avail of special discounts and promos. However if you have specific places you want to visit and things you want to do and most of them don’t come with the package then you might as well plan your own trip. A good alternative would be to avail of a package and spend your extra time doing the things you are interested in but not included in the package.
